 Jose Luis
This is Jose Luis, the caretaker of the grounds. He has been looking after the estate since the retirement of his father, Santiago, the original caretaker.
When the house was first built, and used by Don Jose Maria to spend time with his family, Jose Luis' father Santiago (and Santiago's wife Inocencia) would live in the little log cabin near the main house - but only in the Spring and Summer months (in the cold and isolated Winter months they would retreat to the heart of the village of Rascafria).
His family has therefore been closely associated with this house since its conception... and so his love and respect for the house shines through in everything that he does. He is totally devoted to ensuring that everything looks just as it always has done, and the trees on the estate are well cared for.
He can frequently be seen pottering around the grounds with his 'I am your friendly caretaker' sign prominently displayed on his wheelbarrow (he uses this to make guests understand who he is, lest they think he's an intruder!).
