Madrid

One of the advantages of staying at El Caracol is that you can have all the tranquility and natural beauty that these stunning mountains offer, yet you are only a fraction over an hour away from one of the most stylish and mesmerising cities in Europe: Madrid.

Madrid has it all: culture galore, fabulous shops, delicious food, amazing architecture and the best night-life in Europe (by far).

A day out in Madrid is really convenient by car - it's easy to drive into the city, and there are many car parks dotted around... just look out for the 'P' (for parking!) signs dotted around.

Or, if you prefer, there's a twice-daily bus connection from Rascafria to Madrid, one in the morning, and one in the evening. This route is called the 194, and it is run by the 'Continental Auto' bus company. It takes you straight into Plaza de Castilla which is close to the Santiago Bernabeu football stadium in the north of the city. From here it's easy to get the underground/a taxi into the centre.

Madrid is relatively compact, so it never takes too long to get anywhere. Taxis are well-priced and plentiful, and the underground system is cheap (and a doddle to use).
