The Lounge

lounge from balcony

As you walk through the heavy oak front door, and pass through the hallway (along the beautiful stone flagged floor), you are unprepared for what you are about to behold. Opening the door to the lounge, you are presented with a church-like, hugely atmospheric space - this is the lounge. It is dotted with old paintings and pottery, beautiful wooden furniture, and it has a heavy wood Minstrels Gallery.

The interiors are very much in keeping with the Catholic background of its creator and the original decoration is largely in place: a stone madonna, a 6ft long painting of the last supper, paintings of monks, and other religious features which can also be found in the Monastery down the road.

Don Jose Maria was an avid collector of art and regularly scoured the Rastro (flea market) in Madrid for masterpieces.
