Whether a seasoned hiker or a relaxed stroller, there are dozens of marked walks to choose from.

If you fancy a bit of an uphill challenge, try your legs on Peñalara – the highest peak in the sierra, and admire the Lagoon of the Birds on the way up.

Alterntively go for a leisurely stroll to la Cascada del Purgatorio (the Waterfall of Purgatory), about two hours away.

This stunning mountainous area is renouned for its beautiful walking routes - you will find maps and books in El Caracol, or alternatively can visit the Tourism Information Office on the way into the village of Rascafria.
