Wildlife

The land around the house is rich in wildlife indeed, whether it be majestic eagles circling high above, wild boar coming down from the peaks in wintertime, or deer grazing in the woodland. Protected species in the area include the imperial iberian eagle, the black vulture and the black stork.

The red (and the very rare black) squirrels are a regular sight around the house, and many different and often rare varieties of birds have been spotted in the garden. The swallows (and later in the evening, bats) are frequently found circling around in the courtyard of the nearby Sheraton hotel, and help to add to the romance and intense atmosphere of the area.

Another wonderful sight is the storks nesting in the many nooks and crannies of the hotel and monastery - such an iconic Spanish sight.

In this area, cow bells resonate constantly in the background... something which adds to the calming and enchanting atmosphere of the area. Don't be alarmed if you encounter large cows (with big horns!) wandering freely around - they are not dangerous, and will never attack you. The Lozoya valley is a famous cattle-rearing region, producing some of Spain's most delicious meat delicacies.
